Hyderabad, May 2 (Maxim News): TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said there were no facilities like gunny bags in adequate quantity, tarpaulin covers, etc., to protect the agricultural produce at procurement Centres in Telangana State.
He expressed serious concern over huge loss to farmers due to unseasonal rains in different parts of Telangana State during the last few days. He demanded that the both Central and State Government pay compensation to farmers who lost their crops due to unseasonal rains.
Speaking to media persons after visiting the paddy procurement centres in Nalgonda Rural mandal on Saturday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that not only standing crops spread over thousands of acres were lost, but also the harvested crops which were kept for procurement suffered heavy damage. He said despite several requests, the State Government did not take any measures for proper procurement of agriculture produce. Even gunny bags were not arranged in adequate quantity and despite predictions of heavy rains across Telangana, no precautions were taken to protect the agriculture produce.
Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded that the State Government immediately enumerate the losses suffered by farmers due to unseasonal rains and immediately pay compensation. He said farmers were already hit due to lockdown in view of Coronavirus situation. Therefore, compensation should be paid to the affected farmers on immediate basis without any delay, he demanded.
The TPCC Chief ridiculed the criticism by Finance Minister Harish Rao and Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Congress party for pointing out flaws in anti-Corona measures. “They must realise that we are living in a democratic country and not a Dictatorship. Here, opposition parties have a constitutional right to question all actions of the government and those in power are bound to reply to all the questions raised by even a common man. Therefore, challenging our right to question the government is not only wrong but anti-constitutional. Further, if the TRS leaders did nothing wrong, then they should not fear answering any question,” he said adding that meeting the Chief Secretary or Governor were part of democratic practices and only those who don’t believe in Constitution will raise objection.
Uttam said instead of criticising the Congress leadership, the TRS Ministers must give simple answers to very common questions. “Why are they hesitant to explain the actual financial situation of Telangana to the people? Why are they not disclosing the break-up of funds spent to combat Coronavirus? If there was no misuse of CMRF, why is the TRS Govt hesitant to disclose the details of total donations received and how they were utilised?” he asked.
He said TRS ministers neither have any answers nor powers to speak on those issues. “Harish Rao, as the Finance Minister, should have spent time meeting experts to find solutions to bring out Telangana State from financial crisis. He is totally clueless on how the lockdown has impacted the State’s economy. He’s busy in daily photo-shoots of some food distribution or any other programme. He is not empowered to do his own job. CM KCR hold review on State’s finances in the absence of Finance Minister; discusses Coronavirus situation without involving Health Minister and reviews lockdown without allowing the Home Minister to enter his gates. Before criticising the Congress leaders, TRS leaders must first do their jobs as they too are accountable to the people,” he said.
“It sounds ridiculous when TRS ministers accuse Congress leaders of giving statements from the comforts of air-conditioned offices. Sometimes, it feels that they are actually talking about Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao who never stepped out of Pragati Bhavan ever since the outbreak of Coronavirus. He should have visited hospitals, Containment Zones and other places to inspect arrangements. KCR should’ve led the campaign from the front as the leader. But as always, he remained confined to his palace,” Uttam.
Responding to Finance Minister’s comments that people have sent Congress leaders to isolation, he advised all TRS leaders to first question KCR as to when his ‘Self Quarantine’ going on for the last six years in Pragati Bhavan will end.
Uttam said that the Congress leaders, across Telangana State, have started assembling information the procurement of agricultural produce by the State Government and other difficulties being faced by the farmers. He said the entire information would be properly compiled and analysed and it would be submitted to the Governor next week. (Maxim News)
