AP urges for 70:30 water share as Krishna Board to meet on Aug 27

Hyderabad, Aug.25 (Maxim News): AP Government today urged that the Krishna Board allot 70:30 percent of water among AP and Telangana states. While the Telangana Government urged the board to allot 50:50 percent, the AP has opposed it.

The board is to hold a meeting on August 27 to sort out the dispute among the two states on water ration and allocations. Recently NGT pulled up the AP officials for violation by constructing more projects than required.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded the board to allot 70 percent to AP and 30 percent of water to Telangana instead of 50: 50 percent respectively.

The Board wrote a letter to the AP Government on the appeal of the Telangana government for 50: 50 percent. Reacting to this the YSR Government sought the board to allot 70:30 percent and see that the AP Bifurcation norms are followed in allocation of waters.

The AP urged the board to see that water used in Krishna basin and power projects as per norms. It opposed the Telangana government alleging that it was violating norms by using more water for power production in Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar and Pulichintala projects.

The AP Government informed that it urged the tribunal to allot 1059 cusecs for state requirements. The centre has issued a Gazette notification giving control of water disputes among the two states to the boards. On this the Telangana opposed and AP is adopting a wait and watch policy.

However the board is to conduct a full member meeting on Aug 27 to sort out the dispute in Hyderabad. Keeping in view the forthcoming meeting the AP ENC Narayana Reddy urged the board to allot 70:30 percent and opposed 50:50 percent. Actual allocation of Krishna water is 66: 34 percent to AP and TS respectively.

Telangana, earlier did not attend the previous meeting called by the board as the case was at the court and NGT.

The KCR Government appealed to the board to conduct a full members meeting to sort out the dispute amicably.

The board deferred it and conducted a field level inspection to AP projects as per NGT directions.

NGT slammed the AP officials for violations and constructing more projects than required after a report by board officials.

An official team which visited the projects’ site in AP found that more projects were built and norms violated. (Maxim News)
