Telangana’s development will continue notwithstanding Centre’s cooperation: KTR
Hyderabad, Feb 02: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao asserted that development in Telangana will continue under the K Chandrashekhar Rao government, notwithstanding the Centre’s cooperation and support. He said the Telangana government has set new benchmarks for others in welfare and development, and had only hoped that the Central funds will help the government scale up its activities.
“We sought allocations in the union Budget as it is our right. Though the Centre decided to dish out a step-motherly treatment to Telangana in budgetary allocations, we have no intention to slow down,” he declared.
Laying foundations for several development works in Jawaharnagar, Peerzadiguda and Boduppal Municipal Corporations in Medchal Malkajgiri district on Wednesday, Rama Rao who is also working president of the ruling TRS, criticized that the union Budget for offering nothing to the poor and giving a raw deal to a progressive State like Telangana. None of the requests made by the Telangana government, were considered by the union government in its budget. He reminded that the development in Telangana in last seven years was more than the development achieved in the previous 60 years.
The Minister criticised the Narendra Modi government for ignoring the State government’s representations for allocations and treating Telangana as if it was not part of India. He pointed out that though Telangana had become a model State for others and was fourth largest contributor to India’s economy, the Centre was discriminating in allocating funds to the progressive State.
“Despite our repeated requests, the Centre is yet to sanction national project status to either Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) or Palamuru Rangareddy LIS. It has failed to honour the promises made under Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act,” he said. He accused the Centre of not releasing a single rupee to Hyderabad towards flood relief even after the State’s requests, but releasing Rs 1,000 crore to Gujarat immediately.
