- Congress leader accuses AIMIM of splitting secular votes to help BJP
- Shabbir Ali campaigns for Congress candidate Qamar Ul Huda in Kishanganj
Senior Congress leader and Telangana government advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir launched a strong attack on the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), accusing it of dividing Muslim votes in Bihar to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking to reporters in Kishanganj on Saturday, Shabbir Ali said MIM had become the BJP’s “B-team,” contesting mainly in Muslim-majority areas to weaken secular parties.
“MIM is acting as a spoiler. Instead of strengthening secular forces, it is cutting into Muslim votes and helping the BJP. The party has become a real vote katwa,” Shabbir Ali said after addressing a gathering in Kharkhari village, where he was campaigning for Congress candidate Md Qamar Ul Huda. He asserted that such tactics were only helping right-wing forces consolidate power.
The Congress leader highlighted that the party had consistently worked for the political and social empowerment of minorities through inclusive policies. He said MIM’s efforts to divide Muslim support were undermining community representation and strengthening communal politics. “Every vote split in these constituencies strengthens communal forces. MIM’s entry in such areas is clearly designed to damage Congress candidates and reduce Muslim political influence,” he said.
Referring to the previous assembly elections, Shabbir Ali recalled that while MIM had won only four seats, it indirectly helped the BJP in two dozen constituencies by fragmenting votes. “People have now understood their tactics. This time, MIM candidates will not even be able to save their deposits,” he asserted.

Appealing for unity among voters, Shabbir Ali urged Muslims in Kishanganj and other regions to rally behind Congress nominees. “We should send a strong message that Muslims will not be misled by divisive politics. Md Qamar Ul Huda represents a secular and inclusive vision, and the community must ensure his victory,” he said.
He also encouraged party workers to strengthen grassroots campaigning and counter misinformation. “Our fight is not only against BJP but also against those who indirectly strengthen it by fragmenting secular votes,” Shabbir Ali stated. Concluding his remarks, he warned voters to recognize the “pattern” wherever MIM contests. “Wherever MIM contests, BJP gains. That is the pattern across states. People must see through this design,” he said.
