All-Party Leaders Want CEO To Extend MLC Poll Schedule

Hyderabad, May 7 (Maxim News): A delegation of all-party leaders led by TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy called on chief electoral Officer Rajat Kumar and submitted a representation urging the Election Commission to extend the schedule for the MLC elections under local bodies constituencies by two weeks. The TPCC chief told the CEO that the schedule should be extended in order to prepare the voters list of newly elected ZPTCs and MPTCs for the MLC elections.

Speaking to mediapersons, Uttam Kumar said they also lodged a complaint with the CEO on the MLC election schedule and issuance of notification with 12 hours time. He wondered as to how the EC could issue the schedule during night and issue the notification immediately on the next morning. He said they would go to court on the MLC election notification. He doubted that the ruling party had immediately declared its candidates as if it was aware of the issuance of the notification.

The TPCC president said the role of EC was doubtful and quite objectionable in nature. He asked the EC as to why it didn’t conduct elections for the MLC posts along with those who resigned last year. He also asked as to how it was possible to hold the MLC elections by giving voting rights to the existing MPTCs and ZPTCs by proposing to hold elections on May 31. He also alleged that the EC did not put up the list of voters of the MLC elections under local body quota on its website. The leaders of TDP, TJS, CPI parties were also present. (Maxim News)
