Andhra: Minister Reviews On Cyclone Nivar
Andhra Pradesh Minister Anil Kumar Yadav on Wednesday conducted a review on the cyclone Nivar. He appreciated the Collector and other officials for the way the relief measures were being taken. “We are ready to face the impact of the storm. 700 families have so far been shifted to rehabilitation centers,” he said. He advised the Irrigation officials to be vigilant in view of overflowing of ponds in the district. Special officers along the coast were advised to be vigilant and essentials are being provided to the public. Minister Anil Kumar Yadav advised the people of the villages near the ponds to be vigilant and urged them to cooperate for next two days today and tomorrow.
The district has been receiving heavy rains due to cyclone Nivar in the Bay of Bengal. Heavy rains with gusts of wind are expected at Kota, Vakadu and Chittumudu areas. Electricity supply was disrupted in many places as trees fell on the roads due to the rains. The ponds are being filled up with heavy rains. In this context, Minister Anil Kumar Yadav held a review meeting with the district authorities.
The impact of the cyclone will continue in the southwestern Bay of Bengal. It is located 180 km east-southeast of Cuddalore and 190 km from Puducherry. It is located at a distance of 250 km from Chennai. Nivar, which continues to be a severe storm likely to turn into a very severe storm in a few more hours. The typhoon, which is moving at a speed of 11 kmph, is expected to make landfall between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram this midnight or tomorrow morning. Winds are blowing at speeds of 120 to 140 kilometers per hour as the storm crosses the coast.
