“Annual & Sports Day Celebrations at Osmania University

The Annual & Sports Day Celebrations -2023 was celebrated with lots of pomp and gaiety, held on 12-05-2023 at the University College of Commerce and Business Management. After a long gap of four years, Annual & Sports Day was celebrated this year which was well received by students participating in large numbers from twin faculties of Commerce & Management. The program started with an invocation dance by Ms. Navya, an M.Com final-year student.

Prof. G. Naresh Reddy, Vice-Principal of the college introduced the guests to the August gathering. The Sr. Prof. D. Sreeramulu, Principal of the College gave the welcome address and presented the Annual Report. The occasion was graced by the Chief Guest Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Sr. Prof. D. Ravinder, and Guest of Honour Sri. M. Ramesh Reddy, IPS, IGP (Provisions & Logistics), Telangana State.

Sr. Prof. D. Chennappa, Head, Dept. of Commerce, Prof. Y. Jahangir, Dept. of Business Management presented the Annual Reports of their respective Departments. Prof. K. Deepla, Dept. of Physical Education the host of the program presented Sports Report.

Prof. V.Appa Rao, CBOS, Dept. of Commerce, and Prof. V. Sudha, CBOS, Dept. of Business Management presented the Board of Studies reports of their departments. Sr. Prof. R. Nageshwar Rao presented the report on research activities in the Department of Business Management.

Prof. Smitha Sambrani, Prof.R. Sampath Kumar, Prof. A. Patrick, Prof.I.Sekhar, Prof.Kavita Devi, Prof.C.V.Ranjani, Dr.K.Srinivas, Dr.G.Vidyasagar Rao, Dr.V.Samunnatha, Dr.B.Sandhya Rani and Dr.G.Srinivas Rao have attended the program.

Sri. M. Ramesh Reddy, IPS, an alum of the Department of Business Management, expressed his nostalgia in returning back to the department where he pursued MBA in Technology Management and conveyed that the profession of teaching plays a vital role in society and he too is very passionate of teaching and that drew him to register for the Ph.D. program. He urged the students to think critically and be a part of policy making and not to accept facts blindly but by proper questioning and reasoning. He stressed the importance of knowing one’s strengths and developing a competitive edge. He appreciated and applauded the efforts of the present Vice-Chancellor for his initiatives and setting a conducive academic atmosphere at times taking tough decisions against odds and being focused on the long terms gains of the university and for his personal efforts in bringing the alumni across the globe to build the intellectual and infrastructural capital in the University. He exhorted the students ultimately to be good human beings and better citizens.

The Vice-Chancellor, OU, Sr. Prof. D. Ravinder, in his address as the Chief Guest, made the students realize the glorious history of OU and how it has produced luminaries like Late PM P. V. Narasimha Rao to the two present CMs of Telugu-speaking States of Telangana Sri. K. Chandrashekar Rao Garu and Andhra Y. Jagan Mohan Reddy Garu. He reiterated his Vision through the “21 Point Agenda”, and almost reaching his second year of tenure as the VC is able to fulfill 70-80 percent of the agenda items. He urged the students of Commerce & Management to realize that the currency of life is time and to be always focused on one’s goals in life. He made students realize the examples from the life of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar as how a statue is kept at the University of Columbia to mark his commitment to academics as historians recall that he would be the first to enter and last to leave the library premises and it paid rich dividends to our nation. He conveyed that the foundation day, open day, and Taksh were all meant to Re-invent and enhance the academic atmosphere in the university. He also urged the students that once they complete their masters it’s time to repay back to the alma mater through the OU Foundation in whatever capacity they can help. He wished good luck and poured out his blessings for the outgoing batches and said he’s striving for accountable, transparent, and responsible administration

The Chief Guest & the Guests of Honors distributed the prizes to the teachers and non-teaching staff and students for the various outdoor (Track & Field) and indoor sports activities conducted as part of the Sports Day. The program continued with various cultural programs by the students of Commerce & Business Management.
