In Hyderabad, the fear of bird flu has hit chicken sales hard. Even though the price has dropped to Rs. 150 per kg, people are avoiding buying it. As a result, sales have fallen sharply—what used to be six lakh kilos of chicken sold daily has now dropped by almost 50%. Poultry traders are worried as their business is suffering.

Meanwhile, there is growing concern in border areas after bird flu cases were confirmed in Andhra Pradesh. In response, Telangana officials have tightened checks along the AP-Telangana border. A total of 24 checkpoints have been set up in Khammam and Nalgonda districts to monitor poultry transport.

The Animal Husbandry Department has deployed staff at these checkpoints to inspect vehicles entering Telangana. Any trucks carrying chicken, eggs, or poultry feed from AP are being sent back to prevent the virus from spreading.

Bird flu cases have been reported in several areas of Andhra Pradesh, including Veppur and Tanuku in West Godavari district and Kanur, Agraharam, and Peravali in East Godavari district. Tests have confirmed the presence of the H5N1 bird flu virus in these areas. Since these districts share borders with Khammam, Bhadradri, and Kothagudem in Telangana, officials are taking extra precautions.

Authorities have also set up checkpoints at key locations like Kodada Ramapuram in Suryapet and Tirumalagiri Sagar and Vadapalli in Nalgonda district. Poultry farms within 10 kilometers of the AP border are being closely monitored, and some have even been asked to evacuate as a precaution. Farm workers have been instructed to wear masks while handling poultry.

Officials have assured the public that strict measures are in place to prevent bird flu from spreading into Telangana. They have inspected poultry farms near the border and issued necessary safety guidelines. The situation is being closely watched. (Maxim News)
