BRS Protest: Autos to Assembly, Demanding Aid for Telangana Drivers

BRS Protest | Hyderabad, February 9 (Maxim News): In a unique display of dissent, MLAs and MLCs belonging to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) arrived at the state assembly building in auto-rickshaws on Friday.

This public protest aimed to highlight the perceived neglect of auto drivers’ concerns by the state government.

BRS Protest:

BRS legislators, including former minister and Siddipet MLA Harish Rao, made a symbolic journey from the MLA quarters to the assembly in auto-rickshaws. This action served as a visual representation of their solidarity with the approximately 6.5 lakh auto drivers facing economic hardship in Telangana.

BRS Demanding Relief:

Carrying placards, the BRS members urged the government to provide concrete support to auto workers struggling with rising fuel prices and declining income. Rao demanded a monthly financial assistance of ₹10,000 for each driver and ₹10 lakh compensation for the families of deceased auto workers.

Tensions Rise:

The protest escalated when BRS members attempted to bring their placards inside the assembly. Security personnel denied entry, leading to a heated argument between the legislators and the authorities. Additionally, BRS MLCs wearing black scarves in solidarity with the protest were initially denied entry but eventually allowed inside after some discussion.

A Call for Action:

This public demonstration by BRS representatives shines a light on the economic challenges faced by auto workers in Telangana and demands urgent government intervention.

The protest underscores the need for concrete measures to alleviate their financial hardships and ensure their sustainable livelihood.
