CEO Asadullah: High Court to Deliver Final Verdict Soon

CEO Asadullah | Hyderabad, August 21: Although Mohammad Asadullah has been relieved from his position as CEO of the Telangana Waqf Board, the legal debate over his eligibility and the appointment process is still ongoing.

The High Court here has reserved its final judgment, which is expected by August 25, 2025.

This development follows a series of legal twists surrounding the post.

The controversy began when a single-judge bench of the High Court ordered Asadullah’s removal, citing that his current cadre as a Special Grade Deputy Collector (SGDC) did not meet the eligibility requirement of being equivalent to a Joint Secretary, the stipulated rank for the CEO position under the Waqf Amendment Act 2025.

The Telangana government contested this, defending Asadullah’s appointment by stressing his key role in protecting Waqf properties from encroachment.

A division bench later suspended the single-judge order, allowing him to continue in the role.

However, the High Court recently directed the Revanth Reddy’s government to remove him once again, prompting his repatriation to his parent department.

The government has argued that the SGDC role involves executive duties, while a Deputy Secretary performs ministerial tasks, making them fundamentally different.

While the court deliberates on these arguments, the final decision on this high-profile case is expected in the coming days.

Legal experts suggest that the future of the board also now hinges on the High Court’s decision, particularly in light of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.

Work at the waqf board has halted, causing public concern about its future, primarily due to a combination of legal issues, administrative problems, and the controversial nature of its powers.

It is to be noted that the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 is in the Supreme Court judication.
