Hyderabad, June 17: The Ministry of Coal will organise the third Coal Gasification Roadshow in Mumbai on June 18, 2026, to boost industry participation in surface coal and lignite gasification projects and advance India’s clean coal utilisation strategy.
The roadshow follows earlier events in New Delhi and Hyderabad. It will bring together industry leaders, investors, technology providers, financial institutions, policy experts, coal sector representatives, and State government officials to discuss opportunities in coal gasification.
Coal Gasification Roadshow to Boost Investments
Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy will attend as the chief guest. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will participate as the special guest. Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey will attend as the guest of honour. Senior Ministry officials, including Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt and Additional Secretary Sanoj Kumar Jha, will also be present.
Coal gasification converts coal into synthesis gas, also known as syngas. As a result, industries can produce methanol, urea, ammonium nitrate, synthetic natural gas, and other chemical products. The technology also supports import substitution and strengthens domestic manufacturing.
The Centre has approved a ₹46,000 crore initiative to promote surface coal and lignite gasification projects across the country. The programme aims to increase the use of domestic coal, reduce dependence on imported feedstocks, and strengthen India’s energy security.
Meanwhile, the Ministry has placed the Request for Proposal in the public domain and invited stakeholder feedback. Through such consultations, the government aims to ensure transparency and encourage wider participation in upcoming projects.
The Ministry said the initiative will support industrial growth, attract investments, promote advanced technologies, and contribute to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047.
