WATCH | Congress Leaders File Complaint with Telangana DGP Over Jinnaram Incident
Hyderabad, April 23 (Maxim News): A serious complaint has been filed with the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) following a disturbing communal incident that occurred in Jinnaram Mandal, Sangareddy district, on the evening of April 22.
The complaint alleges that two minority religious sites—Taleem-ul-Quran Madarsa and the Dargah of Hazrath Gareeb Shah Wali (R.H.) were violently attacked by an unruly mob amid rising communal tensions.
Leading the justice charge, a delegation comprising senior Congress leaders and community representatives met with DGP Ravi Gupta at his Hyderabad office to submit a formal complaint.
The delegation included Mr. Faheem Qureshi, President of the Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMRIES), Haj Committee Chairman Khusro Pasha Afzal Biabani, Khateeb Shahi Masjid Moulana Dr. Ahsan Bin Mohammed Al Hamoomi, Osman Al Hajri, Osman Mohammad Khan, and several Congress figures who strongly condemned the incident and demanded strict legal action.
The Congress leaders expressed serious concern about the deteriorating law and order situation and urged the DGP to ensure the safety of minority communities.
According to the complaint, the incident was triggered by reports of alleged desecration of idols at a nearby Lord Shiva temple. While investigations into that matter are ongoing, the complainants allege that the rumor was used as a pretext by unidentified individuals to carry out coordinated attacks on the Madrasa and the Dargah.
The mob reportedly stormed into the Taleem-ul-Quran Madarsa, where approximately 80 children reside and study, vandalizing property, smashing windows, physically assaulting a religious instructor, and leaving several students traumatized.
The attackers allegedly shouted provocative and communal slogans during the attack.
Shortly after the Madarsa attack, the mob moved toward the Dargah of Hazrath Gareeb Shah Wali (R.H.), located just 500 meters away.
There, they allegedly set small fires near the shrine, damaged the ceremonial chadar, pelted stones at police personnel attempting to control the situation, and continued chanting inflammatory slogans.
The delegation asserted that the violence was not spontaneous, but rather a premeditated attempt to disturb communal harmony and incite unrest.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Mr. Faheem Qureshi emphasized the need for swift and decisive action to hold the perpetrators accountable.
The delegation demanded that an FIR be registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with charges including rioting, criminal trespass, arson, assault, and obstruction of public servants. They also called for the immediate arrest of all those involved, based on available CCTV footage, mobile recordings, and eyewitness statements.
The Congress leaders and community representatives further demanded the permanent deployment of police personnel at the Madrasa, Dargah, and surrounding areas to ensure the safety of the residents. They also requested legal aid and protection for the victims and witnesses, and a public condemnation of the incident by senior police and government officials to reassure the public and restore confidence.
In addition, the delegation urged the government to investigate the origin of the false claims about idol desecration at the temple, which they believe were deliberately spread to provoke violence.
They expressed concern that the incident is part of a broader pattern of targeted violence against minority communities and warned that inaction could set a dangerous precedent.
While the Telangana Police has yet to release an official statement, sources indicate that a preliminary investigation is underway. The incident has sparked outrage across various quarters, with civil society groups, political leaders, and community organizations demanding justice and a thorough probe into the events that unfolded in Sangareddy.
