Courts are recognising women’s sacrifices and labour they put in marriage to make home and compensating accordingly: Navya Naveli Nanda

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Chapter of Young Ficci Ladies Organisation (YFLO), a unique platform for young women from diverse professional and entrepreneurial backgrounds to interact with each other, learn, explore new avenues and launch their ideas held its first session for the year 2022 on Young Change Makers in the city on Wednesday evening at Hotel Kohenur, Madhapur.

Navya Naveli Nanda, an entrepreneur and women’s rights advocate and the granddaughter of superstar Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan and Manasi Chaudhari, a well-known Women rights lawyer interacted with Malliha Fatima, a lifestyle journalist, and panellist in discussions organised by CII and FICCI. Malliha facilitated the conversation.

Ms Sonali Modi Saraf, Chairperson of YFLO Hyderabad welcoming the gathering said it was pleasure to host Navya Naveli Nanda, an entrepreneur and social activist striving to create a gender-equal world along with Manasi Chaudhari, a legal entrepreneur with immense contributions to women’s rights, health and law. It is Navya’s first visit to Hyderabad.

The session with theme ‘Young Change Makers’, is organised keeping in line with the YFLO Chairperson’s year theme Potential is Power. The interactive session shed light on the potential of the young entrepreneurs and how they were empowering young women with their vision.

The session focused on Navya Nanda discussing her journey as an entrepreneur focusing on women’s rights and women’s health. Manasi Chaudhari talked about legal rights of women and empower the members with legal knowledge helpful in their day-to-day lives and entrepreneurial journey.

Interacting with the panelist and answering to one of her questions on legal status on compensation in separation for women sacrifice in marriage Manasi said Courts are recognising women’s sacrifices and labour they put in marriage to make home and compensating accordingly.

When asked to suggest a few laws women should know offhand, Manasi gave a list of five which include 01. Know the law and women rights against domestic violence; 2. No women should be arrested after sunset, 03. Daughters have equal rights property as their son; 04. At work same pay for all, equal pay for all for same work and 05. Acts that protect women from sexual harassment at work.

Navya Naveli Nanda replying why she chose a different path while hailing from a family of actors, she said my father is in business, my passion lies in business. So, I chose this path. I do enjoy what I do. I was never interested in the film world.

I know I come from a privileged background and I take it with lot of responsibility, she said

Speaking about menstruation stigma Navya said the discrimination faced by people who menstruate is unfair. There is nothing wrong in it and one must talk about it openly.

When asked about why women neglect their mental health, the young entrepreneur Navya said we give a lot of importance to our body by the same care and concern is shown for mental health.

Speaking further Navya said all women and all mothers are good entrepreneurs.

She explained EntrepreNaari, an initiative of Project Naveli, Navya said that is an impact-driven gender-diversity initiative and its mission is to help women become financially independent

When asked about challenges she faced as an entrepreneur Navya said people are afraid of failure in their entrepreneurial journey. But for me failures teach more than success. I want to fail and learn more, she added.

On speaking about why not many women choose legal root to find a solution for conflict resolution during the separation, in case of tape, Mansi said victim shaming is very sad. It is also because of lack of legal effectiveness. Irrespective of the problems one faces, they must stand for their rights. Faster justice will help people come forward to take legal root for conflict resolution.

Navya Naveli Nanda is an entrepreneur and women’s rights advocate. She is the co-founder of Aara Health, a women’s healthcare platform in India focusing on providing medically verified content around women’s health and scientifically-backed products for preventative care. She is also the founder of Project Naveli, a non-profit initiative supporting gender equality in India. Navya graduated from Fordham University in New York with a major in digital technology and UX design.

Manasi Chaudhari is the founder of MC Legal, a niche transactional law firm specialising in business and entertainment law. She is said to have grown up in Hyderabad. She is the founder of Pink Legal, an award-winning and India’s only digital platform for women’s rights. In 2018, Manasi assisted Justice DY Chandrachud in the Supreme Court of India on landmark cases such as Section 377 and the entry of women into the Sabarimala temple. She was awarded the Legal Entrepreneur of the Year 2020 by Business World and the Digital Women 2020 Award by SheThePeople and Google.

Pink Legal is a platform where women can easily understand their legal rights. It made a humble beginning but catapulted from a primary platform to an entire organisation to create legal awareness and provide women access to legal services. She is called a ‘legal entrepreneur’ in recognition of her work.

Over 100 YFLO and FLO members are expected to attend the session.
