Hyderabad, July 9: Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday urged citizens to make the fight against narcotics a people’s movement and work collectively towards building a drug free Telangana and a drug free India.
The Governor attended the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan programme organised by the police department at the Hanamkonda Integrated District Offices Complex (IDOC). Public representatives, district officials and senior police officers welcomed him on his arrival.
During the event, the Governor unveiled awareness posters highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Addressing the gathering, Shiv Pratap Shukla said creating a drug free society is not the government’s responsibility alone. He stressed that every family, community and individual must actively participate in eliminating narcotics from society.
He said every household should resolve to keep drugs away from their homes. He added that lasting change begins with individuals, who should first stay away from drugs and then inspire their families, friends and society to do the same.
Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Dr Banda Prakash, State Finance Commission Chairman Siricilla Rajaiah, Warangal West MLA Nayini Rajender Reddy, Vardhannapet MLA K R Nagaraju and Special Chief Secretary to the Governor M Dana Kishore attended the programme.
Warangal Police Commissioner Shweta, Hanumakonda Collector Chahat Bajpai, Warangal Collector Dr Satya Sharada, GWMC Commissioner Venkanna, Additional Collectors Ravi, Sandhya Rani and Y V Ganesh, DCP Dhara Kavitha and other officials also participated.
