Hyderabad, August 27: GATE 2027 registration began on Thursday, August 27, under IIT Madras.
Candidates can apply without a late fee until September 27, 2026.
Candidates can submit applications with a late fee until October 5. IIT Madras has made DigiLocker registration mandatory for all Indian nationals.
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering offers admission opportunities to postgraduate and doctoral programmes. Several public sector undertakings also consider GATE scores during recruitment.
GATE 2027 adds Robotics and Automation paper
GATE 2027 will have 30 test papers. IIT Madras has introduced Robotics and Automation as a new paper.
Meanwhile, Textile Engineering and Fibre Science has moved into the Engineering Sciences sectional paper. Therefore, the total number of papers remains unchanged at 30.
Candidates can choose one paper or up to two papers from the permitted combinations. They must select both papers in the same application.
The GATE 2027 examination will use computer based testing. Each paper carries 100 marks and includes General Aptitude and subject sections.
Candidates studying in the third year or higher of eligible degree programmes can apply. Graduates from recognised programmes can also appear for the examination.
The GATE score remains valid for three years from the date of result announcement. Candidates can use the score for eligible postgraduate and doctoral admissions.
IIT Madras has also introduced DigiLocker based registration to streamline the application process. The system can fetch the candidate’s name, date of birth, contact details, photograph, address and verified identity information.
Therefore, candidates should create or update their verified DigiLocker accounts before starting registration. They should also ensure that their details match their valid identity documents.
Candidates must submit only one application. Those seeking two papers should add the second paper to the same application. Multiple applications may lead to rejection without a fee refund.
GATE 2027 examinations will take place on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027. The results are scheduled for March 19, 2027.
The application schedule was revised by IIT Madras. Registration opened on August 27 instead of the earlier planned date. The regular deadline also moved to September 27.
