Hyderabad, Oct. 5: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner RV Karnan inspected the proposed 4.3 km elevated corridor in western Hyderabad.
Khairatabad Zonal Commissioner B. Santosh and the GHMC Chief Engineer accompanied him during the inspection.
The six lane, bidirectional steel flyover will connect Jubilee Hills Check Post with NFCL Junction.
The project has a sanctioned cost of ₹1,090 crore. It aims to ease traffic congestion and provide signal free movement across five major junctions.
Officials reviewed foundation excavations and junction improvement works during the inspection.
These measures aim to streamline traffic movement during construction.
Unified Elevated Corridor to Ease Traffic Congestion
GHMC has revised its earlier proposals for separate underpasses and grade separators. Officials reassessed these plans following the success of the one way traffic system around KBR Park.
Court cases concerning tree felling permissions had also delayed progress on earlier proposals.
Meanwhile, the stretch between NFCL Junction and the KBR Park entrance continues to experience heavy congestion.
GHMC has now finalised a continuous elevated corridor from Jubilee Hills Check Post to NFCL Junction.
The unified design replaces the earlier plan for separate grade separators.
Project Divided into Two Construction Packages
GHMC will execute the project through the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model. The work will be divided into two packages using modular steel construction technology.
The first package covers the stretch from Jubilee Hills Check Post Junction to Mugdha Junction. It has a sanctioned cost of ₹580 crore.
The second package extends from Mugdha Junction to Muffakham Jah College. It includes a connecting ramp to Banjara Hills Road No. 1. This package has a sanctioned cost of ₹510 crore.
Together, both packages account for the total project cost of ₹1,090 crore.
Flyover Expected to Reduce Travel Time
The proposed 4.3 km corridor will feature six lanes for traffic moving in both directions. It aims to provide uninterrupted movement across five major traffic junctions.
Officials expect the project to reduce travel times and vehicle queues. It could also lower fuel consumption by reducing delays at congested junctions.
The project will use modular steel structures to accelerate construction. This approach is also intended to minimise disruption to commuters during execution.
According to the project details, the corridor will avoid construction footprints within the environmentally sensitive zone around KBR Park.
The design aims to minimise the impact on existing green cover.
GHMC Estimates ₹1,200 Crore in Savings
The revised alignment is expected to reduce land acquisition requirements significantly. GHMC estimates savings of ₹800 crore by avoiding extensive acquisition of high value private land.
The revised design is also expected to save ₹400 crore in construction costs.
This estimate compares the unified corridor with the earlier multi component plan.
The combined estimated savings amount to ₹1,200 crore. The project aims to expand road capacity while reducing expenditure and construction disruption.
Once completed, the elevated corridor is expected to improve connectivity between Jubilee Hills Check Post and NFCL Junction. It aims to address persistent traffic congestion across western Hyderabad. (Maxim News)
