Varanasi/Hyderabad, Aug 16 (Maxim News): A gunshot has been fired at Varanasi Airport. A gun accidentally went off while a passenger was being checked this morning (Sunday) . Two airport staff members were seriously injured. Authorities were immediately alerted and the victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
A passenger from Azamgarh had gone to Varanasi airport with his wife to fly to Mumbai. Before boarding Air India flight IX-1810 at 09:30 AM, he informed the authorities that he had a gun and a magazine. While checking the weapon and its related documents, the gun suddenly went off. The bullet first hit the ground and then hit two AAICLAS screeners. This injured a female staff member in the thigh and another male in the hand.
Varanasi Airport Director Puneet responded to the incident. He said that a round exploded from a passenger’s gun during weapons check. Two screeners were injured in the incident and were taken to New Lakshmi Trauma Center for treatment. He said that the condition of the two injured personnel is currently stable. Puneet said that the local police have been informed and an investigation is underway. (Maxim News)
