Harish Rao Alleges Telangana Water Betrayal by Congress Government

Hyderabad, Jan. 30 (Maxim News) : Former minister and BRS leader T Harish Rao on Friday alleged that the Congress government was compromising Telangana’s water interests, stating that state welfare was more important than politics for his party.

Addressing an urgent press conference at Telangana Bhavan, Harish Rao said the Congress government itself had forced the need for the briefing. Harish stated that he approached the media to explain what he described as injustice to Telangana in ongoing water related developments centered in New Delhi.

Harish Rao alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was facilitating diversion of Telangana’s river waters to Andhra Pradesh. He claimed this was being done through a planned approach involving the Polavaram and Nallamala Sagar projects. He accused the government of filing an ineffective writ petition in the Supreme Court and later withdrawing it, which he said weakened Telangana’s position.

He warned that if the alleged actions continued, the day would be remembered as a black day in the state’s water history. Harish Rao said the BRS had been consistently raising concerns over Godavari water diversion but accused the Congress government of ignoring repeated warnings.

The BRS leader alleged that Andhra Pradesh had continued its water projects under different names and that Telangana’s interests remained unprotected. He claimed that previous meetings convened by the Union Jal Shakti Ministry also focused solely on the Nallamala Sagar link project.

Harish Rao questioned why Telangana representatives attended recent irrigation meetings without securing assurances to halt detailed project reports or central approvals.

He also raised objections to the choice of officials representing the state, alleging past opposition to Telangana projects. He asserted that the BRS would not remain silent and would take the issue to the public.
