HYDRA, GHMC Continue Fire Safety Inspections, Six Shops Sealed in Hyderabad

HYDRA | Hyderabad, Jan. 30 (Maxim News) : Fire safety inspections continued for the second consecutive day on Friday, with HYDRA, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, and allied departments conducting joint enforcement drives across the city and sealing six shops for serious violations.

The inspections were intensified in the backdrop of recent fire incidents.

Teams comprising officials from GHMC, HYDRA, the Fire Services Department, and the Electricity Department inspected commercial establishments and initiated action against those floating fire safety norms.

Officials found several shops operating without mandatory building permissions and fire no objection certificates.

Cellars were illegally converted into godowns, increasing fire risk. Authorities noted unsafe storage of chemicals, paint cans, mattresses, batteries, and furniture manufacturing materials in confined spaces.

In many buildings, automatic water sprinklers, smoke detectors, and functional fire extinguishers were absent.

HYDRA GHMC RAIDS

In Gachibowli, the Looking Good Furniture showroom was sealed after inspectors found large quantities of flammable materials stored in cellars.

Officials also noted unauthorised construction and the absence of fire clearances. Cellar ramps were blocked and filled with stock, restricting emergency access.

Similar violations were detected at Anu Furniture showroom at Kompally Cross Roads.

In Kukatpally and Attapur, Royal Oak Furniture outlets located along the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway were sealed for stocking hazardous materials in basements.

In Uppal Nagole, Bantia Furniture showroom was sealed, while another Anu Furniture outlet at Nacharam was also shut down.

Barricades were erected and warning boards declaring the premises unsafe were installed.

HYDRA officials reiterated that commercial buildings cannot be used as godowns.

They advised shop owners to store goods at designated warehouse locations and restrict showrooms to display and sales activities only.

Authorities said inspections will continue and warned of strict action against establishments endangering public safety. (Maxim News)
