Hyderabad Gets First Automated Multilevel Car Parking

Hyderabad, July 31: Hyderabad is all set to launch its first automated multilevel car parking facility near KBR Park Entry Gate 1, located between the LV Prasad Eye Institute junction and the Jubilee Hills Check Post Junction.

The facility is expected to be inaugurated by mid-August, marking a significant step towards solving the city’s growing parking challenges.

Khairatabad Zonal Commissioner Anurag Jayanti confirmed, “The trial run has been successfully completed. We plan to formally open the parking facility by mid-August.”

Spread across 405 square metres, the structure can accommodate up to 72 cars using six rotary stacks, each capable of holding 12 vehicles. Additionally, 20% of the space has been allocated for two-wheelers. The facility operates on smart technology with no manual intervention, making it the city’s first fully automated parking system.

Parking charges have been fixed at ₹30 for cars and ₹10 for two-wheelers for up to three hours. Vehicles can be parked using a smart card equipped with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).

A mobile app-based slot booking system is also being considered for future implementation.

Operational hours are from 5 AM to 10 PM. The process for users is simple: drive in, apply the handbrake, exit the vehicle, and the system takes over. Vehicles are automatically parked or retrieved within seconds using the smart card.

“This facility is not just for visitors to KBR Park but also serves people with work or business in the area,” said Naveen Kumar, Assistant Engineer (ADVT), GHMC.

The project was developed under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model with a Hyderabad-based firm, following the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model. The facility uses advanced Korean technology and serves as a pilot for future smart parking systems.

Currently, GHMC operates another multilevel parking facility at its Abids office, which has been in use for over two decades. However, that system is manually operated, unlike the fully automated setup near KBR Park.

Following the success of this pilot, similar smart parking systems are planned for other high-traffic areas such as Abids, Secunderabad, and Charminar.
