Hyderabad Police Warn Strict Action Against Chinese Manja Use
Hyderabad, Jan. 5 (Maxim News): Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar on Monday warned of criminal action against anyone selling, storing, or using banned Chinese manja during the Sankranti season.
The commissioner said Chinese manja poses a serious threat to birds, pedestrians, and motorists. He stated that violations will invite immediate criminal cases and strict legal action without exception.
Police teams have been directed to enforce the ban rigorously across the city. He stressed that festive kite flying should not endanger public safety.
Chinese manja ban enforcement intensified in Hyderabad
V C Sajjanar said Chinese manja causes severe environmental damage as it does not decompose for years. He recalled that the Environment Protection Act 1986 prohibits its manufacture, sale, storage, and use.
Special surveillance has been activated citywide. Task Force and local police will conduct joint raids on kite shops, grocery stores, and suspected warehouses.
He added that transport agencies and parcel services illegally bringing Chinese manja from other states are under watch. Agency owners will face cases if their involvement is established.
The commissioner urged parents to act responsibly. He explained that Chinese manja contains plastic, synthetic fibers, glass, and metal particles.
These materials can cause fatal neck injuries to two wheeler riders, severe injuries to children, and electric shock if entangled in power lines.
He appealed to citizens to report illegal sales or storage by calling Dial 100, contacting the Hyderabad Police WhatsApp number 9490616555, or informing local police. He assured that informant details will remain confidential. (Maxim News)
