HYDRA Clears 1,570 Truckloads Of Silt From Hyderabad Nalas

Hyderabad, July 11 (Maxim News): HYDRA cleared 1,570 truckloads of silt from drainage channels across Hyderabad between June 22 and July 11, 2026. Teams worked without a break to complete the large-scale desilting drive. As a result, blocked nalas across the city now carry floodwater more freely during the monsoon season.

According to HYDRA, the Monsoon Response Teams and Disaster Response Teams jointly carried out the desilting work. Teams cleared silt from nalas, manholes, and culverts across multiple colonies. Furthermore, many drains that previously overflowed with sewage now flow smoothly. Residents in several areas report fewer sewage flooding incidents as a direct result of the drive.

However, HYDRA officials note that household waste remains a key problem. Residents continue to dump unusable items into flood and sewage channels. Consequently, this waste blocks water flow and causes colonies and roads to flood during heavy rain. HYDRA teams find tonnes of garbage each time they clear a drain across the city.

HYDRA Commissioner Urges Hyderabad Residents to Stop Dumping Waste Into Nalas

Therefore, HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath appealed to city residents to stop throwing waste into nalas. He urged citizens to use the Swachha Auto service, which collects waste door to door. Additionally, he asked those without access to the service to use designated garbage bins in their area. He stressed that this one step can prevent large-scale flooding during heavy rain.

Moreover, the desilting drive covers all major areas of Hyderabad. Teams clear both small residential drains and large stormwater channels. In addition, HYDRA clears blockages near manholes and culverts that restrict water flow. The drive is part of HYDRA’s wider monsoon preparedness plan for 2026.

Meanwhile, the city has already seen heavy rainfall this monsoon season. Clean and clear nalas reduce the risk of waterlogging in low-lying areas. Furthermore, smooth drainage protects roads and prevents damage to property. HYDRA said the desilting work will continue across the city throughout the monsoon period.

As a result of the ongoing drive, HYDRA urges all residents to cooperate. Do not dump waste in nalas. Use the Swachha Auto service or the nearest garbage bin. This helps HYDRA maintain clear drainage channels and keep the city safe during rains.

HYDRA PUBLIC ADVISORY — MONSOON 2026

Do not throw waste, household items, or garbage into nalas or stormwater drains. Use the Swachha Auto door-to-door waste collection service. Use designated garbage bins in your locality. Blocked drains cause colony flooding during rain. Report nala blockages to HYDRA through local ward offices. (Maxim News)
