Hyderabad, Sept. 1 (Maxim News) : HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath has approached the Telangana High Court challenging a single judge’s order in the Shanta Sriram Constructions contempt case.
The appeal challenges the observations and directions issued against Ranganath in connection with a disputed property. The commissioner filed the appeal after the single judge closed the contempt proceedings against him.
Justice Jukanti Anil Kumar said the rule of law must guide administration. He also stressed that the administration cannot function through the dominance of individuals.
Court raises concern over repeated contempt pleas against HYDRAA
The court took serious note of repeated contempt proceedings linked to the same land dispute. It observed that three contempt petitions had emerged from the same dispute.
The court also referred to more than 60 petitions filed against HYDRA. These developments prompted the court to examine the broader issue of compliance with judicial orders.
While disposing of the contempt proceedings against Ranganath, the single judge referred to an earlier Supreme Court judgment in the Tata Mohan Rao case. The judge highlighted the principle that forgiveness can reflect greater dignity than punishment.
However, the court also suggested that the Telangana government transfer Ranganath from his post as HYDRA Commissioner. It asked the Chief Secretary to consider appointing another officer in his place.
Ranganath has now challenged the single judge’s order before the High Court. His appeal reportedly raises legal issues concerning the observations made against him and the direction regarding his transfer
The commissioner approached the High Court nearly a month after the single judge delivered the order. The appeal has therefore attracted attention within administrative and legal circles.
The High Court’s response to the appeal could determine how the legal issues surrounding the contempt proceedings and the transfer recommendation develop further. (Maxim News)
