Bratislava, June 15: India and Slovakia upgraded their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive partnership following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Bratislava on Monday.
The two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, defence and economic engagement. The leaders also expressed support for the early implementation of the India European Union Free Trade Agreement to expand business opportunities.
The visit marks the first official visit to Slovakia by an Indian Prime Minister.
Speaking after the talks, Modi said the decision to elevate ties reflects shared priorities and a common vision for future cooperation.
He also appreciated Slovakia’s support in advancing discussions related to the India European Union free trade agreement. According to Modi, faster implementation of the agreement could benefit industries, startups and traders in both countries.
The Prime Minister highlighted defence cooperation as an important pillar of bilateral relations and said it reflects growing strategic trust between India and Slovakia.
The leaders also discussed expanding economic collaboration and exploring new opportunities across sectors as both countries seek stronger engagement.
