Hyderabad, August 11: The body of a six-month-old infant allegedly went missing from a burial site at a graveyard in Punjagutta within hours of burial, leaving the grieving family shocked.
The infant was one of six-month-old twins who were undergoing treatment for health complications at a private hospital in Banjara Hills. The first child died on Saturday, while the second infant died the following night.
According to the information available, the family from Ghansi Bazaar in Charminar took the first infant’s body to the Punjagutta Hindu graveyard on Road No. 3 in Banjara Hills on Sunday. The child was buried there after the family reportedly paid ₹2,500 to the graveyard staff.
However, the family returned to the graveyard on Monday afternoon after the second twin died. They planned to perform the final rituals and bury the two children together.
Infant’s Body Missing From Burial Site
The family was reportedly shocked to find that the grave of the first infant had been dug up and the body was missing. They questioned the graveyard staff and demanded an explanation, leading to an argument at the site.
After completing the last rites of the second infant, the family approached the Banjara Hills police and lodged a complaint.
Police registered a case and reportedly detained graveyard staff for questioning. Investigators are examining how the infant’s body disappeared and whether negligence, unauthorized removal or any other circumstances were involved.
Officials are yet to disclose further details about the investigation. Police are also examining the graveyard premises and questioning those responsible for its management.
The incident has raised serious concerns over the security and management of burial sites in the city. Further investigation is underway.
