Iran Crude Oil To India For The First Time After Seven Years

Internet/Hyderabad, April 1 (Maxim News): The United States recently announced that it is lifting sanctions on Iranian crude oil, which has been stuck at sea due to the war in West Asia. With this, Indian refineries are showing interest in buying Iranian oil. In this context, an oil tanker from Iran recently left for India. The oil was loaded into the tank at Kharg Island on March 4. It will reach Vadinar port in Gujarat on April 4, data intelligence firm Klepler revealed.

It is noteworthy that this is the first time that Iranian crude oil has arrived in India since 2019. It is estimated that it may contain about 6 lakh barrels of crude oil. However, there is no information on which Indian refinery will use this oil coming from Iran. In the past, India was a major buyer of Iranian oil. At one point, Iran’s share in total oil imports was about 11.5 percent.

While India imported around 518,000 barrels of Iranian oil per day in 2018, that had come down to 268,000 barrels per day by May 2019. After that, crude oil imports from Iran came to a complete halt due to US sanctions on the country. (Maxim News)
