Kalvakuntla Kavitha urged the government to raise VOA salaries from Rs 8,000 to Rs 26,000 as promised and called for immediate action on pending welfare assurances. She addressed the gathering as the chief guest and asked VOAs to stand firm and demand what is due to them.

Kavitha said Congress leaders had promised Rs 26,000 salaries to VOAs during the recent elections but failed to honor the commitment after coming to power. She alleged the government entered office by “a wrong turn” and has since forgotten its guarantees. She criticized the Chief Minister, saying he should meet the women protesting for salaries rather than offering slogans, and insisted, “8 thousand salaried VOA has to be increased to Rs. 26,000” She pledged that Jagruthi will stand with VOAs until the pay hike is implemented.

Highlighting VOAs’ role, she said they support the delivery of loans to 64 lakh members in self-help groups, facilitating about Rs 20,000 crore in credit. Therefore, she argued, asking for fair pay is not unreasonable and urged VOAs to raise their fists and demand their rights without fear. She asked them not to underestimate their strength and to seek recognition, dignity, and adequate compensation for their work.

Kavitha Demands Justice for VOAs and Women

Kavitha also demanded annual provision of two sets of uniforms for VOAs, noting that uniformed roles carry distinct respect. She said she would personally back VOAs if the government troubled them and pressed the administration to keep its salary hike promise. She accused the government of failing women broadly, citing the absence of the promised Rs 2,500 support and delayed pension enhancements. She alleged that housing benefits were being narrowed to those linked to the Congress party and insisted that every poor family in Telangana must be covered.
