Hyderabad, April 16: K. Kavitha warned the Centre against reducing Telangana representation in Parliament. She said any cut in the state’s share would trigger strong public protests.
She was reacting to proposed bills on women’s reservation and delimitation expected in Parliament. Kavitha said Telangana’s voice must not be weakened through seat redistribution.
Kavitha noted that Telangana currently holds 3.13 percent representation in Parliament. She said this should remain the baseline after delimitation. Any reduction, she added, would hurt the state’s self respect.
Kavitha seeks protection of Telangana share
She expressed concern over the proposed increase in total seats. Although it appears positive, she said Telangana may still lose relative share. Therefore, she warned against regional imbalance.
Kavitha also opposed linking women’s reservation with delimitation. Instead, she demanded that it be tied to OBC reservations. She said quota within quota for OBC women is essential.
She argued that southern states should not be penalised. These states, she said, have performed better in population control and development. Hence, delimitation based only on population would be unfair.
Kavitha said her party would oppose such moves at all levels. She warned of protests from Parliament to the streets if Telangana’s interests are harmed.
