Kothagudem Mayor Post Goes To CPI After Talks with CM Revanth Reddy
Hyderabad, Feb. 14 (Maxim News): Kothagudem Mayor post has been allotted to CPI after successful talks between CM Revanth Reddy and CPI leader Palla Venkat Reddy.
The Congress party will take the Deputy Mayor post as part of the understanding.
The development ended days of uncertainty over the Kothagudem Mayor seat.
Earlier, CPI had emerged as a strong force in the municipal elections.
The party won the highest number of wards in Kothagudem Municipal Corporation.
However, CPI fell short of the required majority to elect the Mayor on its own.
Therefore, the party sought support from other political groups.
BRS had already announced its support. Meanwhile, CPI leaders waited for Congress to clarify its stand.
After discussions with CM Revanth Reddy, Congress agreed to back CPI for the Mayor post.
In return, Congress secured the Deputy Mayor position. As a result, CPI formally clinched the Kothagudem Mayor seat.
The outcome has boosted morale within CPI ranks. Moreover, the agreement reflects shifting political alignments at the municipal level in Telangana.
With the Kothagudem Mayor issue settled, attention is now turning to leadership elections in other urban local bodies across the state.
