Leopard ‘Sighted’ Near RGI Shamshabad Airport

The Forest department officials have reached the spot and are verifying the facts and the footage from the surveillance cameras in the surroundings. There’s no official confirmation yet.

Hyderabad, Jan 18: A Leopard was spotted on the runway of Hyderabad airport on in the early hours of Monday.   Panic gripped among residents in Shamshabad after a leopard was reportedly sighted near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Leopard CCTV footage:

According to the airport officials, the CCTV footage showed the wild animal prowling near the runway for about 10 minutes and later jumped off a wall running towards Rashidguda.

A video clip, apparently from a CCTV feed, showing the animal walking on the road between Shamshabad and Tukkuguda before jumping a wall which has a wired fencing and which is said to be the runway compound wall, is making the rounds.


The leopard is suspected to have gone towards Bahadurpura. A local claims to have seen it informed the police and the forest department. The airport security forces were alerted on the leopard prowl who are examining the CCTV footage. A search is underway to locate it.

Pug marks:

It is to mention here that In Sircilla, pug marks of a wild animal were spotted in Marupaka village of Vemulawada urban mandal on Sunday. The villagers believed that the pugmarks are to be of leopard and informed the forest officials. The officials who inspected the marks said that the pug marks were of dogs.

The villagers who found the pugmarks while on their way to agriculture fields in Merupaka on Sunday breathed a sigh of relief after the officials gave a clarity on it.
