Hyderabad, May 2: Telangana Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Friday criticised the Centre over rising LPG prices and additional costs imposed on Hajj pilgrims, calling the decisions “anti-people.”
LPG Price Rise Draws Sharp Criticism
Shabbir Ali expressed concern over the steep increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices.
He said the hike has pushed costs significantly higher for small businesses, hotels and eateries.
According to him, the increase will lead to a rise in food prices, impacting common people.
He alleged that the policies of the government led by Narendra Modi place a financial burden on the poor and middle class.
He also criticised the timing of the hike, claiming that relief measures are often linked to elections.
Concerns Over Economic Impact
Referring to global factors like the West Asia crisis, Shabbir Ali said the government should have taken steps to protect citizens from price shocks.
He pointed out India’s dependence on LPG imports and stressed the need for better pricing and subsidy mechanisms.
He also raised concerns over alleged supply disruptions and black-market sales.
Objection To Additional Hajj Charges
Shabbir Ali opposed the reported additional ₹10,000 charge on Hajj pilgrims.
He said the move places unexpected financial stress on people who plan for years to undertake the pilgrimage.
He questioned the lack of advance planning despite rising aviation fuel prices.
Demand For Rollback
He urged the Centre to roll back the LPG price hike and additional Hajj charges.
He said the government should prioritise public welfare and provide immediate relief.
