Polling began at 7 am across 142 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal under tight security arrangements.
The Election Commission deployed Central Armed Police Forces, CCTV surveillance and webcasting facilities at polling stations.
Mamata Banerjee alleged that a Trinamool Congress worker was assaulted on Tuesday night. She also claimed that BJP leaders were attempting to influence the election process.
The Chief Minister further alleged that observers and police personnel brought from outside the state were creating pressure at local police stations.
She claimed CRPF personnel entered the residence of a Trinamool councillor in South Kolkata during the night without local police presence.
According to Banerjee, the councillor’s family members were allegedly assaulted and threatened.
Meanwhile, minor tensions were reported from several constituencies, including Bhabanipur, Rashbehari and Singur.
In Bhabanipur, central forces cautioned the Chief Minister’s brother Kartik Banerjee for gathering near a police station with more people than permitted.
Congress workers in Rashbehari also alleged obstruction by ruling party activists at polling booths.
Election officials said polling continued amid heavy security deployment across Kolkata and six other districts.
