Peddapalli, July 14: An Assistant Engineer of the Peddapalli Municipality was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a contractor to clear a pending bill.
According to ACB officials, the accused engineer, Satheesh, had allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh from the contractor for processing and clearing payment related to municipal works.
Officials said the contractor approached the ACB after allegedly being harassed for the bribe.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap and caught the engineer red-handed while he was allegedly accepting Rs 2 lakh.
The accused was taken into custody, and further legal proceedings have been initiated under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The latest arrest comes just days after another ACB operation in the district.
On July 9, Paidi Sathish, an Assistant Engineer in the Panchayat Raj Department, was trapped while allegedly accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe at Gangadhara mandal headquarters.
According to the ACB, he had allegedly demanded the money to process official records related to works executed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has reiterated its appeal to the public to report any government official demanding illegal gratification.
