- Musi Rejuvenation Project defended by A Revanth Reddy at DPR meeting in Hyderabad
- Chief Minister says Musi Rejuvenation Project will boost development and employment
Hyderabad: The Musi Rejuvenation Project drew political attention after Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy stated that the initiative was also linked to real estate development. He made the remarks while speaking at a meeting held to unveil the Detailed Project Report of the River Musi plan.
During the event, the Chief Minister defended the government’s decision to move forward with the Musi Rejuvenation Project. He also criticised opposition parties, accusing them of running false campaigns to mislead people about the project.
Meanwhile, the meeting included a presentation by EV Narasimha Reddy, Managing Director of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited. The presentation focused on the Detailed Project Report of the project and outlined proposed development along the river.
Referring to criticism from political opponents, Revanth Reddy questioned why the government should not promote the real estate sector to bring investments and encourage development. He also said the Musi Rejuvenation Project was not intended to target any section of society. According to him, the project was planned with future generations in mind.
The Chief Minister spoke at length after the DPR presentation. He maintained that real estate development linked to the Musi Rejuvenation Project could create employment for thousands of workers. He also argued that investments would increase if projects such as Global Capability Centres were developed.
Revanth Reddy further said the State government was already promoting sectors like medical tourism, pharma, and information technology. Therefore, he said, the government also had a responsibility to promote real estate development.
He also attempted to address concerns raised by critics of the Musi Rejuvenation Project. According to him, the government was not working against the interests of the poor or cooperating with real estate companies for financial gains. Instead, he said the objective was to strengthen Hyderabad’s economic growth.
“If any project will be taken up against the poor people’s interest, will any party come to power again? A few people are opposing the project with a simple reason that Congress will come to power again, and I will get fame and recognition.”
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also responded to those opposing the project along the river banks. “We have not missed human touch anywhere. All those who are opposing the Musi project, will they live on the river banks? I will provide a container house with all facilities, and let them live there for three months. If we don’t act now, it cannot be done in future. Why can’t the intellectuals understand this?”
He said the section of the Musi Rejuvenation Project covering 21 kilometres would cost between Rs 6,500 crore and Rs 7,000 crore. He also stated that the Gandhi Sarovar component accounted for only two per cent of the overall project cost.
Earlier, the DPR presentation also showed plans for commercial structures and facilities along both sides of the river banks. These included large attractions such as giant wheels and other commercial establishments.
Revanth Reddy said the current debate focused mainly on areas where people lived along the river. However, he added that concerns about downstream regions, including Nalgonda, also needed attention.
Later, he appealed to opposition parties to stop spreading conspiracy theories about the Musi Rejuvenation Project. He also said the government would present the DPR in the Assembly and seek suggestions from all parties.
“I appeal to the opposition parties to stop the conspiracy theories and come up with suggestions. If everyone wants to stop the project, let us not take it up. I don’t have any issues,” Revanth Reddy said.
