Hyderabad, Aug 14 (Maxim News): Actor Akkineni Nagarjuna said he became a victim of cyber fraud four years ago and urged people to stay alert.
Nagarjuna shared his experience while attending a cyber awareness programme organised by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau on Thursday.
The programme formed part of the Suraksha Ka Tiranga cyber awareness initiative. Nagarjuna attended the event as the chief guest.
The actor said a person claiming to be a bank official contacted him during the incident. The caller reportedly tried to persuade him to invest in certain stocks.
According to Nagarjuna, the caller promised high returns from the proposed investments. He also tried to gain the actor’s confidence by praising his business knowledge.
The caller reportedly told Nagarjuna that he had heard he was smart in business. He then questioned why Nagarjuna would not consider the investment opportunity.
Nagarjuna said the incident showed that cyber criminals could target anyone. He therefore urged people to remain cautious when dealing with unknown callers and investment offers.
Nagarjuna urges public to stay alert
The actor stressed the need for greater awareness about cyber fraud. He said people should not trust callers simply because they claim to represent banks or financial institutions.
He also urged the public to verify investment offers before transferring money or sharing personal information. In addition, people should avoid making financial decisions under pressure from unknown callers.
Cyber fraudsters often use convincing identities and attractive investment promises to gain victims’ trust. Therefore, public awareness remains an important tool in preventing such crimes.
Nagarjuna’s account at the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau programme highlighted the risks faced by individuals across different sections of society.
He called on citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious financial or online activity to the appropriate authorities.
