Nipah Virus Stir In Kerala: One Person Tests Positive

Kozhikode/Hyderabad, June 11 (Maxim News) Nipah virus has created a stir in the state of Kerala. Recently, it is reported that a 43-year-old man from Kozhikode district has tested positive for the virus in a preliminary test. Officials suspect that the man may have contracted the infection while cleaning a warehouse. The doctors who tested him have sent the patient’s samples to the National Institute of Virology. The test results are likely to be out today, and the doctors said that the patient’s health condition is stable at present.

In this context, the alert government has convened a special review meeting under the chairmanship of the Kozhikode District Collector. The steps to be taken under the auspices of the Medical Board will be discussed today after assessing the situation of Nipah. Officials said that a decision will be taken on the establishment of containment zones and imposing restrictions in the state based on the results of the NIV test. Since the patient traveled with many people, health officials have already started contact tracing.

Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister K. Muraleedharan said that there is no need for anyone to worry about Nipah. He said that the patient, who is suspected of being infected with Nipah, initially went to several private hospitals for treatment. The minister said that there are concerns that there is a possibility of contracting the virus in this process.

The minister said that as a precautionary measure, hospital staff who had come in close contact with the patient have been ordered to be quarantined. He said that a meeting of top officials has been convened at the Health Minister’s office in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday to review the situation and decide on further action.(Maxim News)
