Asaduddin Owaisi | Hyderabad, June 11 (Maxim News): AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has raised concerns over the Election Commission’s use of the “logical discrepancy” category during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls ‘Many could be out of draft list due to name on anomalies list’, he urges EC to clarify on process.
Owaisi urged voters to remain vigilant and ensure that all required documents are in order before the verification process begins in Telangana.
Speaking to media in Hyderabad, Owaisi said party workers along with volunteers are helping residents understand the documentation requirements linked to the SIR exercise in Telangana. He stated that voters whose names did not appear in the 2002 electoral rolls but were included in the 2024 parliamentary rolls are being advised to keep records related to their parents, grandparents and earlier generations ready for verification.
Owaisi said individuals whose names were absent from the 2002 rolls are receiving guidance on preparing supporting documents. He stressed that voters should carefully verify their records to avoid complications during the revision process.
Owaisi Raises Concerns Over ‘Logical Discrepancy’ Category
Referring to the Election Commission’s “logical discrepancy” category, Owaisi questioned some of the parameters reportedly being used during voter verification.
He said cases where the age difference between a father and child is around 15 years are being marked as anomalies. He also claimed that families with more than six children are being flagged under the category.
“There is no law that says a person with six children cannot vote. Therefore, people must pay close attention to these issues and prepare their documents properly,” Owaisi said.
The Hyderabad MP noted that the issue has already triggered political debate in several states. Political parties, including the All India Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Tamil Nadu, have objected to the use of the category during electoral roll verification.
The matter also reached the Supreme Court of India, which directed the Election Commission to publish the names of individuals placed under the logical discrepancy category at gram panchayat offices, taluka offices and urban ward offices to facilitate transparency and public scrutiny.
In West Bengal, the apex court additionally permitted the deployment of more civil judges to handle the large num

ber of objections and verification requests linked to the category.
Meanwhile, the SIR exercise in Telangana is scheduled to begin on June 15. The draft electoral rolls will be published on July 3. The period for claims and objections will run from July 31 to August 30, while the final electoral rolls are expected to be released on October 1.
Owaisi also sought clarity on the forms to be used during the exercise. He said that in earlier SIR drives, voters received pre printed forms. However, reports now suggest that booth level officers may distribute blank forms that voters will need to fill themselves.
He appealed to voters to cooperate with booth level officers and ensure that all information is submitted accurately to avoid any issues during the revision process. (Maxim News)
