Hyderabad, July 9 (Maxim News) : Over 1,100 police personnel carried out a large-scale cordon and search operation at Mangar Basti in Habib Nagar, Hyderabad in the early hours of Thursday.
The operation ran from 3:30 am to 6:00 am. Police seized a large quantity of ganja during the raid. They also took several suspects into custody for questioning.
According to Hyderabad City Police Jt. CP Tafseer Iqubal, the pre-dawn timing was a deliberate tactical choice. It allowed officers to seal all entry and exit points before residents were active.
Furthermore, the large deployment of 1,100 personnel ensured that no part of the locality was left unsearched. The cordon and search method is commonly used in areas with high levels of reported criminal activity.
Additionally, Mangar Basti falls under the limits of Habib Nagar Police Station in Hyderabad. The area has previously been identified as a hotspot for drug peddling and related offences.
However, the exact quantity of ganja seized and the number of persons taken into custody are yet to be officially confirmed at the time of this report.
Moreover, cordon and search operations of this scale are typically planned and coordinated at the zone level. They involve personnel from multiple police stations working in unison. As a result, they cover a wider area and reduce the chances of suspects escaping during the search. Police said further details will be released after the investigation progresses.
The operation is part of Hyderabad Police’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal substances in the city. Meanwhile, the suspects taken into custody will be questioned to establish supply chains and identify key distributors. Further arrests are likely based on information gathered during the search.
The investigation is ongoing and a formal statement from senior officers is expected soon.
According to Jt. CP Tafseer Iqubal, there are a number of people who have been taken in custody and are also involved in other criminal activities, the police plan to do counselling to the minor offenders by setting up committees and bringing them to the mainstream, he said. (Maxim News)
