Hyderabad, May 14: PMJ Jewellery robbery case saw three arrests in Karimnagar as police cracked the high value heist and identified an interstate gang.
Abhishek Ghaus Alam said the accused belong to an organised interstate robbery network. He added that the case was solved through coordinated efforts by police teams.
Investigators found that jailed gangster Subodh Singh planned the robbery from prison. He is widely known as the Golden Thief.
PMJ Jewellery robbery case reveals interstate gang role
Police arrested Raghunath Karmakar alias Jagir Singh, along with Ravish Kumar and Mehtab Khan. They seized Rs 51,000 cash, two mobile phones, SIM cards, and fake Aadhaar cards.
Officials said the gang reached Telangana two months before the crime. They conducted recce in Khammam, Siddipet, Peddapalli, and Karimnagar. They also used fake number plates and identities to avoid detection.
The robbery took place on May 3 at a PMJ Jewellery store in Jyothinagar. Armed assailants threatened four staff members and opened fire when resisted.
They looted about 161.4 tolas of gold and 112 carats of diamonds. The total value of stolen property was estimated at Rs 82.02 lakh.
Police have formed five special teams to track the remaining accused. Efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen jewellery.
The Commissioner assured traders of enhanced security. He said there is no need for panic as police continue the investigation.
