Hyderabad, Sept. 9: Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, began his seven day visit to India on Wednesday.
He is visiting India at the invitation of Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan. His visit will continue until September 15.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Prince Rahim will meet President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
He will also meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during the visit.
Prince Rahim will travel to Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Hyderabad as part of his India visit. The Aga Khan Development Network has several development and community initiatives in these cities.
Prince Rahim to Visit Hyderabad and Other Cities
This is Prince Rahim’s first visit to India since he became the 50th Imam of the Ismaili community.
He assumed the position in February 2025 following the death of his father, Prince Karim Al Hussaini Aga Khan IV. The succession followed the historical Shia Imami Ismaili tradition of hereditary Imams.
The Ismaili community has a presence in more than 35 countries. Its global population is estimated at around 12 to 15 million.
Prince Rahim serves on the boards of several Aga Khan Development Network agencies. He has also followed the work of the Institute of Ismaili Studies and Ismaili community institutions.
His visit comes amid longstanding engagement between the Aga Khan Foundation and India. His father visited India in 2015 and was conferred the Padma Vibhushan for his contributions to social development.
Aga Khan IV died in Lisbon on February 4, 2025, aged 88. Prime Minister Modi had condoled his death and praised his contributions to service and spirituality.
