Hyderabad: Telangana witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall on Thursday evening, bringing temporary relief from intense summer heat. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has continued its heatwave warning for several districts as temperatures remain above normal across the state.
The rainfall cooled conditions in many areas after weeks of scorching temperatures that crossed 43°C. Although some locations reported brief traffic disruptions due to waterlogging, authorities managed the situation quickly and ensured smooth movement on major roads.
Thripuraram in Nalgonda district recorded the highest rainfall at 6.4 cm, while Miryalaguda received 5.6 cm. Several other districts also experienced scattered showers during the evening.
Telangana Rain Brings Relief Amid Heatwave Conditions
Despite the rainfall, heatwave conditions continue to affect multiple districts. The IMD has issued a heatwave alert for 13 districts and warned that isolated areas may continue to experience extreme temperatures over the coming days.
Hyderabad recorded temperatures close to 40°C on Thursday, nearly 6°C above the seasonal average. Mamillagudem in Suryapet district registered the highest temperature in the state at 43.6°C. Several districts reported temperatures exceeding 41°C.
Meanwhile, weather experts said conditions are becoming favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance further into Telangana within the next four to five days. The current northern limit of the monsoon passes through Hyderabad, creating suitable conditions for its progress across the state.
For Friday, the IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds reaching 40 to 50 kmph in districts including Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal and Hanamkonda. Northern districts may also witness gusty winds of up to 40 kmph.
The weather department expects light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers at isolated places across Telangana over the next three days. Meteorologists noted that the combination of high temperatures, thunderstorms and rainfall indicates a seasonal transition linked to the advancing southwest monsoon.
Officials have advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and follow weather advisories as temperatures are likely to remain above normal despite intermittent rainfall.
