Revanth demands caste-based census of BCs, join dharna at Jantar Mantar

Hyderabad/New Delhi, Dec.13 (Maxim News): Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President & MP A. Revanth Reddy on Monday demanded that the BJP Govt at the Centre take up caste-based census of Backward Classes across the country.

Revanth Reddy was addressing the dharna ‘BCs’ Jung Siren’ organised by BC Welfare Association of Telugu speaking States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Monday. Announcing his support for the BC caste-based census, Revanth Reddy said that the proposal was originally mooted by the previous Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre. However, it could not be taken forward after Congress lost elections in 2014. Instead of implementing the plan, BJP Govt at the Centre dropped the proposal by calling it as impossible.

The TPCC Chief slammed Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for not supporting the demand for caste-based census of BCs. He said KCR, who came to power in Telangana with the support of BCs, was acting against their interest by supporting the BJP in rejecting the demand for caste-based census. Why is CM KCR silent on this issue and why nine TRS MPs did not join the BCs’ dharna at Jantar Mantar? he asked.

He said that although Prime Minister Narendra Modi claims that he belongs to the Backward Classes, his government at the Centre was doing injustice with the BCs. He said that the caste-based census would help in ascertaining the social, educational and economic backwardness of BCs. It will also help in the empowerment of BCs through effective implementation of welfare schemes. “Since both PM Modi and CM KCR are not interested in the welfare of BCs, they are suppressing the demand for caste based census,” he alleged.

The TPCC Chief announced that the Congress party, if voted to power at the Centre and in Telangana in next elections, would conduct caste-based census for BCs. He said that the Congress party would raise the issue in the Parliament besides supporting all the movements launched by different organisations for this cause. (Maxim News)
