Hyderabad, July 28 (Maxim News): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday defended the state government’s stand on HYDRAA and responded to the Telangana High Court’s directions regarding HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi, the Chief Minister said the government would review the court’s order while reiterating its commitment to protecting lakes, ponds and drainage channels from encroachments.
Revanth Reddy alleged that land grabbers were misleading courts by producing fake documents and funding misinformation campaigns on social media to discredit HYDRAA. He asserted that the agency was created to safeguard public water bodies and remove illegal encroachments.
Revanth Reddy Backs HYDRAA Mission
The Chief Minister’s remarks came a day after the Telangana High Court directed the Chief Secretary to remove HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath over allegations of violating court orders in demolition-related cases.
Responding to the development, Revanth Reddy said the government would examine the High Court’s directions in detail. However, he maintained that HYDRAA represented a major reform introduced by the state government and would continue its operations.
“HYDRAA’s responsibility is to protect lakes, ponds and nalas. Encroachers are spending money to run false campaigns on social media and are attempting to mislead the courts with fabricated documents,” the Chief Minister said.
He also recalled that former Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar had faced around 400 contempt of court cases, suggesting that contempt proceedings alone should be viewed in a broader administrative context.
Revanth Reddy said the government remained committed to strengthening HYDRAA and continuing demolition drives against illegal constructions on public land and water bodies. Referring to previous enforcement actions, he noted that structures built on Bathukamma Kunta and the N Convention premises had also been challenged in court.
“The government has complete clarity on HYDRAA. It is the government’s prerogative to decide where an officer should be posted. We will contest false cases through the legal process,” he said.
The Chief Minister reiterated that protecting public resources and preventing encroachments would remain a priority for the Telangana government. (Maxim News)
