Rs. 14,000 Crore Spent on Power Subsidy to Support Farmers and Citizens: Bhatti

Khammam/Hyderabad, June 18 (Maxim News): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced that the state government has spent a massive Rs. 13,992 crore towards electricity subsidies this year, reaffirming its commitment to supporting farmers, households, and educational institutions.

Speaking to the media after a review meeting with electricity officials in Khammam, Bhatti detailed the subsidy allocations made by the government. “Our farmers are using 29 lakh pump sets, for which we are paying Rs. 11,500 crore annually on their behalf. Additionally, Rs. 2,293 crore has been spent to provide 200 units of free electricity to 5,70,132 families. Educational institutions received Rs. 198 crore in subsidy,” he said. In total, nearly Rs. 14,000 crore has been paid out as part of these subsidies, he added.

Bhatti Vikramarka criticized opposition parties for spreading “false propaganda” that the power supply would be disrupted under the Congress government. “Congress means electricity, and electricity means Congress,” he said, taking a swipe at the previous BRS government for not establishing a single power-producing industry during its decade-long rule. He highlighted that while the earlier government could supply only 15,000 megawatts, the current administration has increased capacity to 20,000 megawatts.

Looking ahead, Bhatti outlined ambitious plans to meet Telangana’s growing power demands. He said the state would require 33,773 megawatts by 2030 and assured that green energy projects would play a key role. The government is preparing to invest Rs. 1.8 lakh crore in new projects, drawing inspiration from global innovations in the sector.

The Deputy CM emphasized that Telangana continues to provide an uninterrupted 24-hour power supply across the state. “Minor trips can happen, but for any issue, citizens can reach out through the toll-free number 1912,” he added.

In a move to enhance safety for electricity department staff, Bhatti announced that electric ambulances equipped with protective facilities would be introduced soon. He also handed over protective gear to employees and revealed that the government has arranged insurance coverage of Rs. 1 crore for electricity staff — a first in the country. (Maxim News)
