Shashi Tharoor Is Not With Us, Won’t Be Invited to Party Meets: K. Muraleedharan Fires Fresh Salvo

Delhi/Hyderabad, July 21 (Maxim News): In a fresh outburst that signals rising friction within the Congress party in Kerala, senior leader and former MP K. Muraleedharan has publicly declared that Shashi Tharoor is “not with the party” and will no longer be invited to party meetings or functions in Thiruvananthapuram.

Speaking to the media, Muraleedharan criticized Tharoor’s recent remarks prioritizing national interest over party loyalty, stating that such comments go against the spirit of the Congress. “Until Shashi Tharoor changes his stance, we will not invite him to any party events. He is not with us, so the question of expelling him does not arise,” Muraleedharan asserted, adding that it is up to the Congress high command to take a final call on disciplinary action.

This isn’t the first time Muraleedharan has taken aim at the Thiruvananthapuram MP. He had previously expressed anger over Tharoor’s views on the Emergency period, accusing him of undermining the party’s historical legacy. Without naming him directly, Muraleedharan had remarked that those who feel constrained within the Congress should consider a “clear political alternative.”

He also referred to a recent survey that showed Tharoor as the preferred CM face among UDF supporters, criticizing it as biased and suggesting that Tharoor must first decide “which party he truly belongs to.”

Tharoor, meanwhile, has maintained that he is committed to the Congress despite his occasional praise for the Modi government, which has earned him flak from within the party. Reiterating his position on multiple occasions, Tharoor has said he has no plans to join the BJP, and remains loyal to the Congress, even amid growing internal criticism.

The rift highlights the ongoing ideological and leadership tensions within the Congress in Kerala, especially as the party gears up for future elections and attempts to re-establish a strong foothold in the state.
