Six Bengaluru Cops Suspended After Gelatin Sticks Found Before Modi Visit
Bengaluru, May 25: Six police personnel in Bengaluru have been suspended for alleged dereliction of duty after gelatin sticks were recovered ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Art of Living Centre on the outskirts of the city earlier this month.
The suspended personnel include one sub inspector, one assistant sub inspector and four police constables attached to Bengaluru South district police.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited the Art of Living Centre on May 10 for an official programme.
According to police officials, the explosive material was discovered during routine security inspections conducted ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
Gelatin Sticks Recovered During Security Inspection
Officials said a police constable noticed suspicious gelatin sticks fitted with a circuit and timer during the inspection near the event venue.
The discovery immediately triggered a high alert among security agencies.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot and intensified security arrangements in the surrounding area.
Authorities later launched an internal inquiry into possible lapses in security and surveillance arrangements.
NIA Joins Investigation
Following the recovery of the gelatin sticks, the National Investigation Agency joined the investigation to examine the nature of the explosives and any possible security threat linked to the incident.
Bengaluru South district Superintendent of Police R Srinivas Gowda suspended the six police personnel after preliminary findings reportedly pointed to negligence in duty.
Officials are continuing investigations to determine how the explosive material reached the high security zone before the Prime Minister’s programme.
