Sri Lanka Fuel Aid India Sends 38K Tons

Hyderabad, March 29: India has sent 38 thousand metric tons of fuel to Sri Lanka following a request from its President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The move comes as Sri Lanka faces a severe fuel crisis linked to the ongoing West Asian war.

The crisis has affected many countries. However, Sri Lanka has been hit harder due to shortages of fuel and cooking gas. As a result, electricity production in the island nation has also stopped. Therefore, the Sri Lankan government sought urgent support from India.

According to the provided information, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake spoke to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and requested fuel supply. In response, India acted quickly and arranged assistance. This step highlights India’s role in supporting neighboring countries during emergencies.

Meanwhile, India sent a total of 38 thousand metric tons of fuel to Sri Lanka. Of this, 20 thousand metric tons is diesel, while 18 thousand metric tons is petrol. The Indian Embassy in Colombo confirmed that a ship carrying the fuel has reached the Colombo port. This delivery is expected to ease the ongoing fuel shortage.

The Sri Lankan President thanked the Indian government for its timely help. He acknowledged the support during difficult circumstances. Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa also expressed gratitude to India for extending assistance.
