Telangana Declares High Alert Over Severe Heat Wave

Hyderabad, May 23: Telangana Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Saturday announced a high alert across the state due to severe heat wave conditions and rising temperatures.

The Minister conducted an emergency review meeting at the Secretariat to assess the impact of the ongoing heat wave and discuss precautionary measures with officials.

During the meeting, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said 16 people had died due to heat related conditions in seven districts across Telangana.

Heat Wave Compensation Announced

The Minister announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives due to the heat wave.

He said the compensation was being provided on the directions of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

Ponguleti warned that temperatures are expected to remain extremely high over the next three days and directed district collectors to stay alert and take preventive measures.

He instructed officials to ensure availability of drinking water, medical support and emergency services in vulnerable areas.

The Minister said protecting people’s lives remains the government’s top priority and stressed that no further deaths due to heat wave conditions should occur.

Officials were also asked to closely monitor weather conditions and create awareness among the public regarding heat safety precautions.
