Hyderabad, May 30: The Telangana Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department has once again extended the validity of existing Telangana Journalist Accreditation Cards and State and District Journalists’ bus passes until June 16, 2026.
The move is expected to benefit accredited journalists across the state by ensuring uninterrupted access to official identification and travel facilities during the ongoing accreditation renewal process.
The extension was communicated through an official letter issued by the I&PR Department letter no. 003491/MR/2024 on May 29, 2026.
The department informed the Managing Director of TGSRTC that the validity of all existing journalist bus passes, which had earlier been extended up to May 31, will now remain valid until June 16, 2026.
Officials stated that the decision was taken to avoid inconvenience to journalists while the process related to accreditation card renewals is underway. As a result, accredited media personnel can continue using their existing cards and bus passes during the extended period.
Telangana Journalist Accreditation Cards Extension Provides Relief
According to the official communication, the validity of all existing Telangana Journalist Accreditation Cards has also been extended until June 16, 2026. Therefore, the I&PR Department requested TGSRTC authorities to honor all State and District Journalists’ bus passes during this period without insisting on the validity date printed on the accreditation cards.
Furthermore, copies of the communication were forwarded to the Telangana Media Academy Chairman, Regional Joint Directors of Multi Zone I and Multi Zone II, and all District Public Relations Officers for necessary action and implementation.
The extension comes as a relief for hundreds of accredited journalists who rely on government-recognized identification and transportation facilities for their professional duties. Meanwhile, the state government continues to process accreditation-related administrative procedures for the next cycle.
The order was issued by Special Commissioner G. Mukunda Reddy on behalf of the Information and Public Relations Department, Government of Telangana. Officials urged all concerned departments to ensure smooth implementation of the extension across the state.
Meanwhile, the issue of journalist accreditation remains under judicial scrutiny. The Telangana Urdu Working Journalists’ Federation, and other journalist organizations, has filed a writ petition in the Telangana High Court seeking to quash the Accreditation Rules, 2025 (G.O. Ms. No. 252) and the subsequent amendments issued by the state government.
The petitioners have challenged certain provisions of the new accreditation framework and sought judicial intervention. The matter is currently pending before the High Court and the hearing of the case is on June 16, 2026. (Maxim News)
