Telangana Rains: Krishna And Godavari Rivers Overflowing

Hyderabad, July 20 (Maxim News): Due to heavy rains in the upper reaches, the Krishna and Godavari rivers in the state are gradually getting flooded. While 65 thousand cusecs of flood water from Narayanpur Dam in Karnataka on Krishna river is coming towards Jurala, Godavari is overflowing with 4 lakh cusecs of flood below Kaleswaram. Officers have announced a high alert in the Godavari basin as it is expected to reach six lakh cusecs today.

Officials say that there is a possibility that the flood flow will continue to the Almatty and Narayanpur projects on the Krishna River for 10 days At present, although it may take time for Almatti to fill up, the flood is being released to the Narayanpur Reservoir below to keep it empty in the event of a huge flood at once.

At present, there is a storage of 101.18 TMC out of 1`29.72 TMC in Almatti Dam.  While more than 61 thousand cusecs of the flood is coming from above, 65 thousand cusecs of water are being released below.  On Friday morning, the flood reached Almatty up to 46 thousand cusecs.  It increased a little in the evening.  it is expected to reach 80 thousand cusecs on Saturday.

It is said that there is a chance that Almatty will be full in another week.  While the flood of 62 thousand cusecs is coming to Narayanpur, 68,810 cusecs are being released downstream. Currently, this dam is almost full, there is currently 34.74 TMC of water against a capacity of 37.64 TMC.  Officials say that the release of water from Narayanapur is also likely to continue like this.

Due to the release of water from Narayanapur, 65 thousand cusecs flood is coming to Jurala project.  Officials say that it may take less time to complete the project.  They say that if the flood flow continues like this, the project will be completed in another 3-4 days.  the project currently has storage of 6.22 TMC of 9.66 TMC, 37,905 cusecs are being released downstream to Srisailam.

Here the flood is rising to Tungabhadra, Inflow is 1,07,632 cusecs.  As the flood in tungabhadra is increasing, hopes are rising for Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar projects.  Tungabhadra currently has 59.8 TMC of water against a capacity of 105.79 TMC.  Officials say that the flood flow is likely to continue for another ten days, and if it increases further, there is a possibility that the flood will increase from Tungabhadra to Srisailam along with Jurala.
